While our tiny team can’t make it out to every screening of Girl Walk // All Day, there’s nothing better than knowing a screening is happening somewhere out there in the world, and seeing our phones and emails light up with tweets and letters from impassioned fans. This is what happened Sunday night, when Girl Walk took over Yellow Jacket Stadium in Austin, TX. The sparklers flew, the dance party erupted, and the kind words began to pour in. A member of the audience wrote in to say,
Hey Makers of Girl Walk // All Day,
Just wanted to say that I was a member of the lucky crowd that got to see your movie last night at Cinema East in Austin. The experience was simply unbelievable. I’ve been to a lot of CE screenings, and there has never been one remotely like this. Starting at about 10 minutes into the film, people began getting up from their blankets to go dance in the middle of the field. As time went on, more and more people got up. You really could feel something stirring in the air. My heart was BEATING. I wanted to dance from the start, but my girlfriend and I stayed put because we didn’t want to stop watching the movie (loved every second of it). Finally, about halfway through, I turned to her and said, ‘if we don’t go up there, we’ll regret it forever.’ It really was something special dancing under the screen. Everyone was laughing and flailing about, but still totally locked on the movie. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN. It felt triumphant. There was nothing but love out on that field…
I really feel like there’s no limits to what this movie could do for the world of dance, but more importantly, what it could do for the world.
And then he shared this video he took of people dancing and running around with sparklers at the end of the evening.
This brings TEARS TO OUR EYES. Thank you to Maggie Lea and Carlyn Hudson for making the magic happen.
